Hope lost in seeking counselling for children of broken home

Not many people know where and how to get help. And even when one approaches a relevant centre, how much can counselling help?
As a divorced single parent, I once thought counselling could help my children. But recently, I have lost hope. There has been no follow-up, and how does one take a child to counselling if he or she refuses to go?
Does anyone expect the mother to drag the child there? Maybe only if the child is young.
