Hope ‘sorry, wrong department’ will be thing of the past
I agree with the writer of the letter “Staff of new municipal services office should have can-do mindset” (Aug 22).

Although 80 per cent of our resident population live in Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats, many do not know what the specific role and responsibilities of the HDB and their respective Town Councils are. More often than not, they are at a loss about which government agency to contact when they are faced with a problem.
I wonder which agency should be contacted in cases such as void deck littering, pipe leakages or stray animals found in different parts of an estate.
I hope with the setting up of the Municipal Services Office, invariable responses such as “Sorry, you called the wrong department” will become a thing of the past.
