HPB working with F&B outlets to train staff for campaign

We thank Mr Lee Kok Lin for his feedback on the Health Promotion Board’s (HPB) Life’s Sweeter with Less Sugar campaign (“Do more to educate front-line staff on health campaign”; Nov 17).

The Life’s Sweeter with Less Sugar campaign aims to encourage Singaporeans to choose drinks with reduced or no sugar and, in the long run, adopt these drinks as their default choice.

For a start, to encourage Singaporeans to choose drinks with reduced or no sugar when they are eating out, the HPB is working with food-court chains, drink stalls and coffeeshops on a scratch-and-win promotion that commenced last month.

Training was conducted for front-line staff at participating outlets before the promotion, but we recognise, through our monitoring of the campaign’s progress, that more can be done to improve the customer experience at retail touch points.

As front-line service staff at our participating outlets play an important role in the success of the campaign, we work with the outlets on an ongoing basis to remind front-line staff of the promotion mechanisms and provide refresher training on how to run the promotion smoothly on the ground.

Since the campaign’s launch, we have seen an increase in the number of drinks with reduced or no sugar sold.

The campaign is still in its early stage and we hope more Singaporeans will participate in the promotion to select healthier drinks with reduced or no sugar.
