Important to follow through on rectifying lapses cited by AGO

I refer to “AGO report flags several ministries for lapses” (July 27).

Pointing out the lapses is one thing, but following up on the actions meant to be taken by the various public sector bodies to rectify the situation is just as important.

I remember that, years back, the Auditor-General had flagged the issue of how several state-owned buildings, which were left vacant, were not being utilised, forgoing potential rental revenue. This is a serious lapse that resulted in a loss for the Government.

One example of land that appears to have been left unused for a long time is the premises previously occupied by Hua Yi Secondary School on Depot Road. The school had been relocated in 2000 to Jurong, and the building has been vacant since. Worse, there is no proper maintenance and upkeep of the premises.

Since the Auditor-General flagged the issue of vacant state-owned buildings years ago, has it been adequately addressed by the relevant ministries? Can the relevant authorities please look into the matter?
