We refer to Mr Gurmit Singh Kullar’s letter, “Give better warnings about KPE closures” (June 5, online).

As part of efforts to upkeep the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will need to close stretches of the tunnel at times to carry out maintenance work.

While these works are necessary, they are usually conducted late at night to minimise the impact on motorists. Where possible, we will avoid Friday and Saturday nights.

Furthermore, the LTA periodically reviews the traffic conditions in the vicinity of and within the tunnel before scheduling any maintenance activities, to ensure the impact is kept to the minimum.

To inform motorists of planned tunnel closures in a timely manner, messages are displayed on available electronic signboards along the adjoining expressways and major connecting roads ahead of and during the road closures.

Motorists can also tune in to local radio stations to receive information on impending and existing road closures. This information can also be found on the One.Motoring website. We thank Mr Singh for the opportunity to clarify.
