I refer to the letter “Encourage cycling by installing bike racks on buses” (Aug 1). Singapore is a bustling, cosmopolitan city, and our roads are crowded during peak hours.

Installing bicycle racks on buses would not help solve the problem and would not be a practical way to promote cycling. Time and effort would be wasted for commuters, bus drivers and other road users, as it would take time to secure the bicycle to the rack.

As the letter mentioned, efforts are already being made so that those who want to ride can carry foldablebicycles on public transport.

Furthermore, if bicycle racks were to be installed and many people want to use this service, not all of them would be able to because of the limited rack space. There would not be equal opportunities to use the service.
