Food and beverage company Ya Kun should be commended for its role in preparing its staff for any eventuality (Ya Kun among local firms readying staff for terrorist attacks; Sept 22).

The 135 man-hours it spent on emergency preparedness measures will inculcate a sense of security, which in turn serves as a morale booster to its employees at all levels.

To some companies, such training may appear meaningless and a waste of time that can be better utilised to do other chores.

But I agree with Ya Kun’s management that if something happens, the organisation, including its brand, might lose out more.

The world today is fraught with uncertainty, and the least expected events can happen, hence we must always be vigilant and take the terrorist threat seriously.

Singaporeans have enjoyed peace and security not by chance, but by standing with the Government in good and bad times.

All of us must thus cooperate in dealing with the terrorist threat. We have a responsibility to ourselves, the community and our nation as a whole.
