Marina Bay terror plot a reminder to stay vigilant

The article “Plot to attack Marina Bay foiled” (Aug 6) shows how real and close to our shores the terrorist threat is.

This incident is a reminder of the need to be united and vigilant.

Although the type of rocket the suspects had intended to use for the planned attack on Marina Bay from Batam is not yet known, it is important to note that militants are now going further than suicide bombing tactics.

As we celebrate our 51st year of independence, let us use the occasion to remember the security agencies that are protecting us from danger and harm on land, sea and air 24/7.

Many of us take them for granted, but they are our unsung heroes.

Because of their efficiency, we have enjoyed peace, stability and prosperity over the years, enabling us to blaze new frontiers for a better Singapore.

While I am certain our security agencies will not let their guard down, ordinary citizens need to remain vigilant so that Singapore can continue to thrive and reach new heights.
