There have been reports of riders using their personal mobility devices in a reckless or dangerous manner, especially on sidewalks or footpaths.

Errant e-scooter or e-bike riders have compromised the safety of many older or child pedestrians, causing minor injuries while risking their own lives, and many go unreported.

In addition, these riders may own a modified version of their devices and some of the modified models have been known to reach unsafe speeds.

The onus is on the authorities to put more effort into enforcement and clamp down on these errant riders before they cause more havoc. However, using the stick may not work for all, so there is also a need to take a comprehensive approach, such as educating them on the basics of safe riding, as well as the dangers of illegal modifications to their e-scooters or e-bikes.

We should not wait for serious injuries or deaths to happen before taking steps to address this issue and finding better solutions.
