Since the letter “Electric bicycles must comply with LTA rules” (Sept 12, 2014), the issue does not seem to have gained traction with the authority.

I see more motorised bicycles on the road. Sometimes, they do not obey the traffic rules.

For example, they would switch suddenly from the road to the pedestrian path. They are a risk to both pedestrians and drivers.

I noticed once that a motorised bicycle was travelling at 40kmh — because my speedometer was at 40kmh— and the rider switched to the pedestrian path when he reached the junction.

Was this not a dangerous speed for him and pedestrians? The Land Transport Authority does not seem to be looking at this problem, and it is causing frustration among drivers and pedestrians.

The LTA or traffic police should start registering motorised bicycles, whose owners want to use the roads, with number plates, so that the public can easily help identify culprits who cycle dangerously on the roads or pathways.
