Seniors who are unclear about government policies such as MediShield Life, the Community Health Assist Scheme and the Silver Support Scheme are bound to benefit from this drama and be entertained at the same time.
I believe, however, that seniors will not be the only audience. I am 16 years old and will definitely catch this production on Toggle. I volunteer for Meet-the-People sessions and come across many seniors who converse only in their dialects.
I can speak basic Hokkien and Cantonese, but when it comes to technical terms and government schemes, I am often unable to express myself accurately.
Hence I am awaiting the release of this drama because it will expand my (Hokkien) vocabulary and knowledge of these government schemes as I address residents’ requests for help by writing letters to the organisations involved.
It would be heartening if younger Singaporeans were to watch the drama, as dialects are a part of our heritage that should not be forgotten as time passes.
Like Madam Neo Am Seow, whom TODAY interviewed, I hope that more Singaporeans will pick up dialects to communicate better with seniors.
Should the drama prove to be a success, I would suggest that more of these dramas be produced in different dialects such as Teochew and Cantonese.
