No to SG50 gesture that would benefit only the haves

There are pioneers who do not have enough money to live on, yet the writer of “An SG50 gesture for banks to consider” (Nov 19, online), is asking for a 3 per cent interest rate for savings of up to S$20,000.

In the end, only the haves would benefit from such a gesture. Those who already have at least S$20,000 in savings can be considered privileged.

Many would claim they worked hard for it, but let us spare a thought for the many other pioneers struggling to make ends meet.
