Noise at Sembawang Library needs to be contained

As a regular National Library Board (NLB) patron, I am heartened by the effort and resources expended towards the reopening of Sembawang Library at Sun Plaza this month.

As a regular National Library Board (NLB) patron, I am heartened by the effort and resources expended towards the reopening of Sembawang Library at Sun Plaza this month.

However, the newly created children’s corner leaves much to be desired. The reason is lots of children are predisposed to running and stamping their feet heavily on the timber floor. The loud noise reverberates through the entire library.

The NLB should explore installing soft or sound-absorbing materials such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) over the timber floorboards and ramp to cushion the sound. Unless the noise is effectively curtailed and contained, it will invariably compromise the enjoyment of other patrons.

Did the NLB foresee the unintended outcome of such hollow floorboards in a constrained space such as Sembawang Library?
