Offset lift maintenance costs via paid ads in public housing areas

I read the report “Town councils to set aside more money for lift maintenance” (July 12) and am concerned that town councils may have to increase the service and conservancy charges collected from residents to defray the cost.

I read the report “Town councils to set aside more money for lift maintenance” (July 12) and am concerned that town councils may have to increase the service and conservancy charges collected from residents to defray the cost.

The town councils should think outside the box and look for alternative income sources to meet the additional lift maintenance expenses.

I propose that advertisement boards be installed in lift lobbies and lifts. The space can be tendered out to the successful bidder to manage the advertisers.

Since my letter “Install ad boards in lifts to defray LUP costs” (June 7, 2012) was published, my town council has placed notices of its own and of related agencies in the lifts.

If need be, these should be replaced with paid advertisements to generate revenue that can defray the additional maintenance costs and other expenses.
