Leicester City Football Club’s incredible run to win the 2015/2016 English Premier League (EPL) is truly amazing (“Underdogs’ football fairytale touches us all”; May 4).

It is a fairy-tale ending to a nine-month journey of perseverance, consistent hard work and sheer determination. Above all, the team had self-belief that if there is a will, there is a way to overcome all odds.

Years from now, Leicester City’s unlikely triumph will still be talked about.

There is one takeaway from the new EPL champion’s victory for our national team. If Leicester City could overcome 5000-1 odds to win the league, Singapore, too, can go on a strong run against better opponents.

The next Singapore football coach must not only instil technical skills and knowledge in our players, but also inculcate a sense of self-belief that translates into a match-winning, against-all-odds mentality.
