Pedestrianising Orchard Rd won’t save it

I agree with the writer of “Orchard Road no longer unique” (May 3). Orchard Road is a relic, and an expensive place at that. I feel that efforts such as pedestrianising it would honestly have no noticeable, lasting effect.

I agree with the writer of “Orchard Road no longer unique” (May 3). Orchard Road is a relic, and an expensive place at that. I feel that efforts such as pedestrianising it would honestly have no noticeable, lasting effect.

The authorities should try other ideas. Perhaps they ought to emulate Malacca’s Jonker Street by reviving our night markets of old. The stretch from Scotts Road to Concorde Hotel could be transformed into one every weekend.

The night market could be twinned with busking acts and small street shows.

This would bring some excitement to Orchard Road at least, and pull in more locals and tourists.
