Plan escape routes for trekkers lost in nature reserve
I refer to the report “Missing man found after nearly two-day search by 200 officers” (Sept 8).
I refer to the report “Missing man found after nearly two-day search by 200 officers” (Sept 8).
The 76-year-old man who went missing in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve was found following a search involving three agencies: The police, national water agency PUB and the National Parks Board.
To minimise the recurrence of similar incidents, the relevant authorities should do a joint survey of the areas frequented by the public. Escape routes could be drawn up, with appropriate signs placed along the routes.
This may also help search parties speedily locate and rescue any stranded trekker. This would save both time and manpower, or even the trekker’s life if he were to sustain serious injury.
I hope my suggestion merits due consideration.
