Private grads deserve more consideration from employers

I am concerned about how employers may view part-time students of foreign universities at private institutions here (“Private grads must go for accredited degrees”; Nov 28).

I am concerned about how employers may view part-time students of foreign universities at private institutions here (“Private grads must go for accredited degrees”; Nov 28).

There must be stronger recognition and awareness of the certificates job candidates produce during interviews with employers.

Even though local university certificates are more recognised, the effort and time that candidates from private universities spent and the stress they underwent deserve more consideration in the selection of the right candidate for a job.

I agree that local universities have a more complete education system, but private institutions also make efforts to mould the future of their students.

Singapore has many young adults who care to study at a private university. Perhaps, they lacked interest in their studies in their younger days or lacked opportunities because of financial difficulties. But as the saying goes, “it’s never too late to learn”.

Our society must encourage them further, as Singapore still depends on them to make this an even better place to live. Let us give those who did not make it to a local university or even a polytechnic the chance to grow our economy.
