Programmers could be facing discrimination from companies

I refer to “Decoding the ‘blue-collar’ image of programmers” (Jan 26). Aside from the industry’s image problem, could companies be discriminatory?

I am a 42-year-old developer and have been looking for a job in software development for the past two months, and have not been offered an interview by any small and medium-sized enterprise. My friends have also found this to be the case.

I can understand if a person is not found to have the necessary skills, but to the extent of not even getting called for an interview?

Perhaps one reason is that employers are unwilling to meet the salary demands of Singaporeans — even when they are in line with what is advertised — as they could outsource the job to foreigners for less.
