Protect mental wellbeing of citizenry to keep nation safe
I wish to express my thoughts on a recent article (“Man charged for claiming he wanted to bomb S’pore”; Jan 26). It is alarming to see a mental patient making a hoax call of joining the Islamic State and bombing Singapore.

This case shows that intensive investigations are needed to ascertain a suspect’s mental state, so others will not use this as an excuse to escape the punishment of attempting any terrorism-related activities.
We also need to look into why the bomb hoax involved joining Islamic State and not other threats. This also shows that it does not mean only Muslims can join the terrorist group.
Lastly, and most importantly, it is crucial to consider the mental well-being of our fellow Singaporeans — whether they are living happily and at a proper stress level. The perspective and mindset of our citizens are also important, in that we must know that no matter how stressed we are, we can speak up and seek help from the proper channels.
Nevertheless, everyone still has an equal responsibility in promoting a safe and harmonious environment and country to provide a better future for our descendants.
