I refer to the letter “Use Punggol as a lesson in development” (Sept 15) and agree with Mr Sum Siew Kee that the design of a park should be community-oriented rather than project-based.

I live in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is right in front of my block. Due to the hot weather, the park is mostly empty between 8am and 6pm.

Why can’t facilities such as bicycle kiosks, covered walkways and shelters, a kite corner and water fountains be provided to make the park a recreation and fun centre for all? Spas could also be allowed to operate in the park.

I hope the National Parks Board will review its design criteria to see if improvements can be made to existing parks.
