I am thankful for my domestic helper, Lina. Like many maids here, she ensured the smooth operations of the household.

Hence, I found the alleged imprisonment of a domestic helper, which non-profit organisation Transient Workers Count Too posted an article about, to have been despicable. (http://twc2.org.sg/2015/03/01/acting-on-a-tip-off-twc2-rescues-a-maid-trapped-over-two-years-without-a-day-off/)

I hope the relevant authorities do a thorough investigation into this case. It is unacceptable if the worker had been treated so despicably in Singapore, an acclaimed First World nation.

Migrant workers form a significant percentage of the population. It is time for Singaporeans overcome the xenophobia and reach out a hand to those helpers who are helpless.
