Rein in escalating prices for sports coverage
The price of greed rears its ugly head again. The asking price for live coverage of the Rio Games is much higher than that for London 2012. Is that fair? On what basis should it be that high?

That the rights are awarded to a third-party agency is no excuse for the International Olympic Committee to shirk its responsibility (“Mediacorp offering free Rio Games coverage across multiple platforms”; July 23).
It should be taken to task for trying to raise rates unrealistically, depriving people around the world of access to the Games and making a mockery of this being a truly international event.
I, for one, would encourage Mediacorp not to give in, as it is time to rein in escalating prices for sporting events.
