Religious ideas, pro-LGBT ideals both stem from the West

I refer to the letter “MNCs’ main goal is profits, not sociopolitical outcomes” (June 23). Globalisation has made the world more connected, in trade and in ideas.

Almost all that we are familiar with has roots in the West, where the ideas the writer accuses religious groups of importing are from and where pro-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) ideals often stem from too.

We should be careful not to reject an idea’s merits simply because of its source and to excuse oneself of such influence while disallowing dissenting opinions. This stirs up unnecessary and unfair discontent between groups of people; it divides society.

What is curious is what the writer implies. It is sound to hire persons on merit, regardless of race, language, religion and sexual orientation. Employment priority should not be given to any special group of people, as this divides people.

If multinational companies (MNCs) show unfair priority, then it does not demonstrate their belief in profits alone. In fact, MNCs that support the global LGBT agenda reveal their hypocrisy in the Middle East, where LGBT people are executed.

Hysteria is not unique to the religious; everyone should be careful of what one does and says. As a thinking, principled and conservative society, we should reject rhetoric that produces more heat than light.

Emotionally charged ideologies are not what we need today. We owe it to our forefathers to not squander their deliberate sacrifices and planning via social experiments that we can see have wrought destruction in Western lands.
