Drones are getting very popular these days and the dangers they pose to aircrafts and passengers have been well-documented.

On a smaller scale, there are also remote-controlled model planes. These planes can fly at breakneck speed.

There is a wide open space near Holland Plain, off Old Holland Road, where a group of enthusiasts fly such planes regularly. Not only do they park their cars illegally along the narrow road, especially behind Methodist Girls’ School, in order to use the space, they would also try to outdo each other by displaying fanciful turns of their planes, sometimes near ground level, at high speed.

People could be playing ball games nearby or there are children running around the field. At such high speeds, the planes can surely cause serious injuries or worse when someone gets hit.

The ground is quite large, so perhaps the authorities might want to look into demarcating part of it for these hobbyists and leave the rest for other uses.
