We thank Mr Wong Boon Hong for his letter “Design of NetLink’s network seems flawed” (June 13) and the opportunity to address his concerns.

NetLink Trust’s network comprises the passive infrastructure that includes the central offices, ducts, manhole and fibre network, as well as the capabilities of fibre network design, build and management.

Physical spare fibre cables are built into NetLink Trust’s network design for service recovery.

However, re-routing of Internet traffic can be achieved only in partnership with Internet service providers through the use of their active network-switching equipment. Hence, we rely on our partners to achieve minimal disruptions during an outage.

In relation to Mr Wong’s personal experience with a network breakdown, we would like to assure him and all our customers that NetLink Trust operates a 24x7 Network Operation Centre and will respond to any emergency outages, even on weekends and public holidays.

We will get in touch with Mr Wong to determine the cause of this inconvenience.
