Reskilling not the only factor in a successful job hunt

I read the letter “Reskilling before finding a new job is risky” (Feb 11) with mixed feelings. While I can empathise with those who are unsuccessful in their job hunt after undergoing reskilling or upgrading, we must study the issue in perspective.

I read the letter “Reskilling before finding a new job is risky” (Feb 11) with mixed feelings. While I can empathise with those who are unsuccessful in their job hunt after undergoing reskilling or upgrading, we must study the issue in perspective.

We must not have the notion that one who is reskilled should be hired for the job applied for without having regard for attributes such as mobility, self-reliance and adaptability.

Certain jobs are hard to atttain if the labour supply outstrips demand.

But even if our pursuit of a vocation is in vain, all is not lost. The knowledge gained during the course of training would stand us in good stead when future opportunities arise.

It is sad that a lack of experience in the job or field seems a disadvantage to job seekers, but how will one acquire experience without first being employed?

I hope this Catch-22 situation will be a rarity for those who are keen on jobs in which they do not have experience.
