Resolution of AHTC case overdue

I refer to the report “Independent panel appointed over AHTC’s improper payments” (Feb 18). This case, from its initial findings to the events to date, has stirred up several questions.

According to reports, it involves improper payments and overpayment of service fees, improper awarding of contracts, lapses in accounts, et cetera.

In cases of companies committing similar improprieties, these are usually dealt with swiftly and in a straightforward manner.

But this case involving Aljunied-Hougang Town Council is still unresolved.

That an independent panel is needed to recommend ways for AHTC to recover payments speaks volumes. The longer this case takes to reach closure, the worse it will look for parties involved — the biggest loser being the residents of AHTC.
