Responsibility of disciplining Amos lies with parents, not public

I read the report “Assault on Amos Yee draws sharp criticism” (May 1) with great concern.
The stranger had no right to slap Amos, who is facing trial for certainoffences. Such an unwarranted act cannot be condoned and, left unchecked, could cause unnecessary public alarm, which may have dire consequences.
However serious the accusations levelled at Amos, it is his parents’ responsibility to discipline him.
More importantly, the rule of law should be respected at all times.
The saying “Two wrongs do not make a right” could not be more appropriate in this case.
