Retire? For some, only when they can

I reached the retirement age last November and continued working full-time. But come next month, I will have only a half a working week and half my pay. My company claimed that its re-employment obligation lasts only for a year.

Retire? Greek philosopher Diogenes was once asked what the proper time for supper was, and he replied: “If you are a rich man, whenever you please; and if you are a poor man, whenever you can.”

Private companies can take advantage of older staff while employing the young and capable, and I doubt that the law or the Government can change the way these companies are run.
