Public education must work in tandem with enforcement to produce the desired outcome: A safer way of commuting for everyone.
There are still cyclists and personal mobility devices users who approach bus stops at speed, expecting others to give way. This mentality must be eradicated; a safety-first mindset must be instilled in all road users.
The LTA may want to consider erecting safety signs near bus stops or painting a safety message on the paths to remind riders to slow down or even stop when approaching a crowded bus stop.
We must continue to step up public education before something untoward happens and we point fingers again. It may be too late when a life is lost.
