We refer to Mr Dave Yap’s letter (“Loud music at swimming complex a threat to safety”, June 28) and thank him for his concern for public safety.

We strive to provide our guests with a pleasant experience while they are at our ActiveSG Sports Centres and playing music is one way to do this. We have so far received positive feedback, but will take on board Mr Yap’s concerns to assure users that their comfort and safety are not compromised.

In this regard, music will be turned off when the lightning warning system is activated so that our staff can make the necessary announcements. We have sufficient lifeguards on duty at all times and they do make the extra effort to alert swimmers when the lightning warning system is activated.

We would like to reiterate that the safety of our users is of paramount importance for us. Mr Yap may also provide feedback directly to our staff on-site so that any issue may be addressed immediately.
