We refer to the letter “SAFRA clubhouses should cater for NSmen of all ages” (June 21) by Mr Francis Cheng.

SAFRA currently has a network of five clubs islandwide with a sixth club to open in Punggol by early 2016. In planning the concept and facility composition of SAFRA clubs, we take a holistic approach with the aim of using different clubs to cater to the varied lifestyle needs of national servicemen.

In general, every SAFRA club maintains a selection of amenities that appeal to NSmen of all ages. These include facilities such as food and beverage outlets, gyms, swimming pools and multi-purpose areas where various activities can be conducted.

At the same time, each SAFRA club adopts a theme that is anchored by a cluster of facilities serving a specific lifestyle interest. This enables every club to retain its individual flavour and become a one-stop venue for like-minded NSmen to meet and bond, regardless of age. Together, the network of SAFRA clubs provides a wide and comprehensive suite of amenities that cater for all segments of NSmen.

Later this year, we will begin work on enhancing SAFRA Mount Faber to better meet the lifestyle preferences of its patrons. Our membership surveys have shown that a majority of the club’s patrons are professionals, managers and executives with a more sophisticated taste for leisure and entertainment.

While the club will retain popular facilities such as the swimming pool and EnergyOne gym, it will feature a fresh look, new facilities, more F&B choices and entertainment programmes once the enhancements are completed in 2016.

Finally, Mr Cheng would be glad to note that we are in the midst of reviewing our EnergyOne gym operating hours. SAFRA remains committed to promoting fitness among NSmen. Operating hours will be adjusted according to demand, while ensuring optimisation of resources and financial feasibility.
