See mental well-being of workers as part of social security

The Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) highlighted vital issues for people with mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, thereby speaking up for the health and human capital of workers.

Healthcare workers trained in this field to manage burnout and moments of crisis are critical.

In the workplace, staff integration across generations and between locals and foreigners, via social activities and teamwork seminars, is needed for cohesion and also for management teams to be mentally alert as our economy bounces back slowly but surely.

As our population grows, and with multiculturalism as one of the spokes of Singapore’s wheel, we need more intelligent social integration. This applies to all levels of society.

Besides the ageing population, there are others who need our care. The SAMH rightfully said they do not want to lose their jobs. We therefore need solutions in vocational training and upgrading.

As we tackle geopolitical and economic challenges, we need a kind of mental revolution. Firms must invest time and energy in human talents for the social and psychological security of our society and workplace.
