Shutdown of 2G network: Help migrant workers, low-income families

I was concerned to read the report “Sale of 2G mobile devices for local use to be banned from Jan 1” (Dec 8).

This will affect certain groups, for instance, migrant workers. Also, families with financial constraints whose phone breaks down might have only a 2G phone as a spare.

Although the authorities are working with StarHub, Singtel and M1 to assist affected customers, perhaps they can consider also working with migrant workers and low-income families to ensure that they know about the changes and the help available to them.
