While there are many categories of single, unwed mothers, either by choice or unfortunate circumstance, they are ultimately mothers first.
Humans tend to judge at a superficial level, and when we fail to recognise this crucial point, we are denying this group the motherhood package.
As a working mother of two young boys, I fully welcome the benefits the government and my company give. At times, I still feel overwhelmed by all the parenting I share with my husband. How much so for single mothers?
Let us not be too judgemental about their choices or get too emotional with sympathy, but take a holistic approach by recognising them as mothers first. The rest would be a bonus.
