SingPost has lost sight of its original function

I agree with the letter “SingPost should go back to basics” (April 12). Singapore Post (SingPost) has lost sight of its original function. It even offers banking services, competing with local banks, but is it staffed to function as a financial unit?

I agree with the letter “SingPost should go back to basics” (April 12). Singapore Post (SingPost) has lost sight of its original function. It even offers banking services, competing with local banks, but is it staffed to function as a financial unit?

It also handles bill payments and some work for government agencies. Its staff are overworked as postal officers, bank officers and bill collectors.

Some statutory boards should not be privatised because then the motive is to prove to shareholders that they can make more money, with the citizens at their mercy.

SingPost has a monopoly on the use of HDB letterboxes and should be managed by the Government to provide the basic services of a post office.
