Site parking gantry on service road of Tampines St 45 precinct

I thank the Housing and Development Board for its reply “Illegal parking in Tampines St 45: Daily enforcement conducted, summonses issued” (July 6) to my letter “Why are drivers of illegally parked vehicles not penalised?” (June 28).

I agree that an Electronic Parking System gantry cannot be located at the said precinct entrance along Tampines Street 45 because it is close to the main road.

A gantry could be sited about 30 to 50 metres from the entrance, however, as had been done for an adjoining precinct.

By having the gantries only at the multi-storey car parks, motorists are encouraged to park illegally along the service road. Some of the cars are foreign-registered.

Many HDB estates have a gantry on the service road, so why are these apartment blocks in the 498 series an exception?
