S’pore owes its high education standard to teachers

The fact that “Singapore teachers work longer hours but are satisfied: Poll” (June 26) is a testament to their strong passion for their profession.

Today’s teachers face a number of challenges, especially those that arise due to parents demanding a right to services that they feel teachers are obliged to provide.

Complaints against teachers are not unheard of and are primarily due to parents’ ignorance regarding how the school system works.

Despite this, which is not unexpected, many of our teachers have attached paramount importance to their profession and continue to explore different avenues to widen their knowledge in their respective subjects.

In short, they desire to upgrade their skills to serve others better.

For many years, Singapore’s education standard has been ranked higher than that of other countries in the region, thanks to teachers who have shown selfless dedication and pride in their profession.
