I refer to the commentary “When corporations work to also do good” (Dec 5). Singapore is a small island and a nation with a young history, but we have no lack of giants.

Next year, the nation will be 50 years old. Our greatness is thanks to the People’s Action Party and the pioneer generation. Let us build on that.

As we look back, let us also look ahead, be thrifty and enterprising, build on our business acumen and never forget to do good to others.

When corporations also do good, kindness rules the world. I applaud the efforts of B Lab (a non-profit certifying a global movement of entrepreneurs who use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems).

Surely Singapore can have its own certification for small-time entrepreneurs, for instance, in the heartlands.

It would take us forward, as we celebrate the Republic’s 50th birthday, to treasure and preserve the legacy our pioneers have left us for our continuing journey in entrepreneurship and kindness for the years beyond 2015.
