Sports Hub’s prohibitive costs a hammer to local athletics development
I read with dismay about the predicament faced by Singapore Athletics in hosting the Asia Masters Athletics Championships at the Singapore Sport Hub’s National Stadium (“Athletics event hits hurdle over S$600,000 Sports Hub costs”, Dec 1).
I read with dismay about the predicament faced by Singapore Athletics in hosting the Asia Masters Athletics Championships at the Singapore Sport Hub’s National Stadium (“Athletics event hits hurdle over S$600,000 Sports Hub costs”, Dec 1).
It is a sad day for athletics, with the prohibitive cost of more than half a million dollars, to convert the sports facility into “athletics mode”, a hindrance to the sport’s development.
This seems to fly in the face of statements made by Sports Hub that it is working with Singapore Athletics “towards finding the best solutions in the interest of developing the sport of track and field in Singapore”.
