SportSG, FAS should support Hariss Harun’s stint in Spain
We should rejoice that Lions vice-captain Hariss Harun now has an invaluable opportunity to scale up his footballing skills with Spain’s Segunda Division B side L’Hospitalet in beautiful Barcelona (“No glamour about Hariss’ new club, but it could well be the right move”; Feb 23). He will bring back useful takeaways that will benefit Singapore football.

A stint in the third tier of the Spanish league is nothing to turn one’s nose up at. The division is well regarded and includes some La Liga reserve teams — something casual football fans may not be aware of. I am already looking to get a L’Hospitalet jersey as a show of support.
Relevant stakeholders such as Sport Singapore and the Football Association of Singapore should do what they can to support Hariss’ stint, which could be the biggest thing for Singapore football since Fandi Ahmad played for FC Groningen and “Remisier King” Peter Lim acquired Valencia CF.
It could pay dividends for our football fraternity.
