We thank readers Anastasia Basyarudin and Manoraj Rajathurai for their suggestions for boosting tourism (“S’pore tourism on the right track — now aim even higher”; April 30, and “Boost tourism in S’pore by drawing on its past”; May 7).

To remain attractive, Singapore must innovate continually to deliver quality, unique and authentic experiences that cannot be replicated easily.

As Mr Rajathurai and Ms Basyarudin point out, quality experiences that draw on our past and present, our culture and identity, allow visitors to immerse in the destination and enjoy a memorable vacation.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has been supporting the industry in experience development through funding support and regular stakeholder engagements.

Through grants, for instance, we have helped industry players such as local tour firm Tribe develop the immersive tour About Mr Lee, which provides interesting insights into Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s personal life.

We have also been supporting traditional festivals through events such as Hari Raya, Deepavali and Chinese New Year light-ups, and new ones such as music festival Getai Soul.

They help inject vibrancy into our cultural precincts and showcase our local heritage.

Beyond experience development, the STB will explore ways to tell a more holistic Singapore story that goes beyond tourism aspects, one that is powerful, authentic and rooted in our cultural and historical identity.
