Stop shooting of crows, use humane methods to prevent attacks

On Friday, residents at Bedok South Avenue 1 were startled by loud bangs. I was told by the town council that Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority personnel were shooting crows due to complaints about attacks on the elderly and children.

On Friday, residents at Bedok South Avenue 1 were startled by loud bangs. I was told by the town council that Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority personnel were shooting crows due to complaints about attacks on the elderly and children.

I spoke to several residents, who were surprised at the allegations of attacks. A few said the attacks were likely a protective instinct of the parents of a nest of baby crows.

Is there a need to shoot at the crows and their nests when there are organisations such as the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society to consult about humane methods of preventing attacks?

Are we progressing towards a compassionate society when an ineffective killing method is still being deployed, with no external check on this waste of public funds? Such killings should be stopped; we have enough violence on television.

Surely, cyclists on walkways, who blatantly defy cycling prohibition signs, pose a greater risk of injury to residents of all ages. But it seems we must live with this hazard.
