Taekwondo chief’s SEA Games role could help boost sport’s visibility here
What an honour it is for the taekwondo fraternity that Singapore Taekwondo Federation president Milan Kwee will be Team Singapore’s chef de mission for next year’s South-east Asian Games (“Taekwondo chief to lead Singapore’s SEA Games contingent”: Oct 15).

I hope this will boost the visibility of this Korean martial art in Singapore.
Mr Kwee would have trained under the old-school system of taekwondo, which emphasised punishing physical regimes focusing on speed and power, as well as values such as dojo etiquette, courtesy and respect for seniors and the uniform.
Few would know that Mr Kwee is a World Taekwondo Federation council member.
He was also inducted in 2011 into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in Kukkiwon, the mecca of taekwondo. This was an honour to Singapore.
More should be done to show gratitude to pioneering pugilists such as Mr Kwee, besides current sports talents such as Joseph Schooling, Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh, who have brought honour and glory to Singapore.
