While the setting up of the Do Not Call Registry was a good move, it has not been effective in stopping companies from sending marketing messages.

This is because little action has been taken against individuals and illegal moneylenders from sending marketing messages to Singapore phone numbers, and there is nothing to discourage them from doing so.

In fact, I seem to have been receiving even more SMSes from illegal moneylenders after the Do Not Call Registry was implemented. When I lodged a complaint over these unsolicited messages to the Personal Data Protection Commission, it directed me to the police for help instead.

And instead of taking action against these illegal moneylenders, I was given a standard reply suggesting I use a spam filter application on my smartphone to resolve the problem.

For the Do Not Call Registry to be truly effective, action against those who ignore the rules must be enforced. If not, they will simply ignore it and send even more unsolicited telemarketing messages.
