Congratulations to Feng Tianwei for winning the Korea Open women’s singles title on Sunday. This is her 10th International Table Tennis Federation singles title.

No other sportswoman can contribute to Singapore on the world stage as much as the triple Olympic medallist.

Her victory, the first since her axing from the national team in October in the name of rejuvenation, does the talking for her.

We should be grateful that she loves Singapore and table tennis and is thankful that as a citizen, she still has the chance to represent Singapore, as she said in November.

As one of her fans, I was heartened to read what Sport Singapore chief executive officer Lim Teck Yin said about her when he expressed his thoughts on Team Singapore’s success last year (Phenomenal year for Singapore sports, but ‘more work to be done’; Dec 13).

He said: “She is interested to continue and sustain herself as a top, world-class table tennis player, she has many fans out there and is still an inspiration to many. That is something we still want to encourage.”

Since this came from our highest-ranking sports official in the land, the Singapore Table Tennis Association should take note, especially now.
