We can have moral values if we learn to reflect on them daily. Respect means treating everyone fairly, regardless of race, age or religion. Being considerate means helping others. Generosity includes a willingness to give of our time.
Saying “hello”, “thank you”, “please” and “may I” is gracious living. Being willing to consider beliefs and behaviours that are different from ours is a mark of acceptance. Compassion means being sensitive to people’s needs.
Values prepare us for roles in society and teach us how to be role models. Schools and parents must work together to make good characters of our youngsters and raise them well.
With more good citizens, we would have more love, and Singapore would be a better, happier place to live.
