Too long a wait for the return of Marine Cove
The report “More open spaces at East Coast Park in September” (May 22), mentioned two ongoing developments at East Coast Park: Parkland Green and Marine Cove.

While I applaud the National Parks Board for enhancing the park’s facilities to cater to a diverse crowd, it is disheartening to learn that the redeveloped Marine Cove is slated to reopen only in mid-2016.
In comparison with this six-year hiatus, it took four years to construct the behemoth that is Marina Bay Sands.
Before 2010, Marine Cove was more than a food and beverage venue that could simply be replaced. It was home to a plethora of memories that peppered every turn and corner, memories that park-goers still hold dear.
Sadly, these memories will not be shared with an entire young generation while it remains closed.
I appreciate NParks’ efforts over the years to revitalise old establishments. I wish only that it remembers the importance of places like Marine Cove in the hearts of people and shortens the bafflingly long closures.
A lot can be accomplished in six years. I wait eagerly for NParks to outdo itself and bring park-goers a pleasant surprise.
