Use electronic pricing technology for toll collection

I use Woodlands Checkpoint at least twice a week and have encountered occasions when the driver in front had difficulty inserting the cash card into the reader. This leads to unnecessary delays at the already congested Causeway.

The Land Transport Authority should review the toll collection process by tapping the electronic pricing technology that is adopted island-wide.

I am surprised that it is relying on the conventional approach of slotting in cash cards.

A decade ago, when I was working in Xiamen, China, the city had implemented in-vehicle devices for highway toll deductions.

The device was linked to the driver’s bank account, so payment was auto-deducted.

There was no need to even leave a cash card in the car, which leaves it open to the danger of theft.
